House in Process: SOMAA featured in Wallpaper*, Divisare and afasia
International architecture and design magazine Wallpaper*, together with architecture platforms Divisare and afasia, have featured House in Process, a residential transformation project by SOMAA in Ludwigsburg, Germany.
In her article for Wallpaper*, Ellie Stathaki explores the gradual transformation of the house, originally built in 1961. Over many years, the existing building has been spatially, structurally and energetically transformed – in response to the evolving needs of its residents and with the intention of preserving its existing qualities.
Divisare presents the project in its curated architecture atlas, featuring an extensive photographic series by Zooey Braun. afasia also features the project, highlighting its careful approach to the existing structure. Together, the three publications bring attention to an approach central to SOMAA's work: architecture is not only about building anew, but also about the precise and thoughtful transformation of what already exists.
